DAVID PARNELL
As a Winnipeger all his life, David grew up, and still lives in the St. James area. He comes from an amazing set of parents who were major role models in his life. As a survivor of cancer (leukemia), David knows the power of positivity, and will bring an infectious attitude and smile to each client he meets. His father, Buddy (whom David lost a number of years ago to the very same cancer David overcame when he was a child) was an accountant, and retired in reinsurance at MPIC. His mother, Marlene took years off her teaching profession to help David battle and beat cancer. His strong background in math and science stems from his parents, who also instilled him with a hard work ethic, excellent communication skills, and strong independent problem-solving skills.
David started his professional career as a farm, personal, and small business tax consultant for 2 years. He has a solid background in numbers and sales, and was recognized with a national award for growth, and retention. He moved on to his schooling in instrumentation technology at Red River and was an outside technical sales representative for 8 years with a prominent industrial solutions company in Winnipeg. David was punctual, efficient, and meeting deadlines under pressure. He quoted industrial projects, equipment and components to many heavy industries. (mining, pulp and paper, forestry, oil & gas, manufacturing, agriculture, hydro/electric and transportation).
David worked as a project manager and property and maintenance manager with a local family owned company managed their own sizable real estate portfolio. He also started his own company, RONE Properties, having interests in multi-family dwellings and owning a sizable portfolio. David managed renovations of multi-family apartment blocks, specializing in rehabilitations of 2-3 1/2 story walk-ups. David excelled at managing crews and sub-trades and dealing with various engineers, project budgeting, provincial and municipal, and civic government liasoning with officials, opening and closing of permits, and real estate transactions. He has a keen eye for detail, and has a wealth of knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, and general maintenance. While working full-time, he also worked as a project manager with another local company to repurpose a large commercial property. David had a prominent role in procuring and sourcing materials, building design, budget and trade management, all while coordinating and communicating with various engineers and architects at a large engineering firm in Winnipeg to ascertain facility licensing by Health Canada.
David has a passion for sports, and grew up living an active lifestyle where he played baseball, soccer, hockey, gymnastics, diving, trampoline, freestyle skiing, golf, volleyball, and curling. He is currently very active in the community, where he is the sitting president on a board of directors with Freestyle MB. He runs his owns club that provides quality freestyle ski programming and coaching to all levels of athletes throughout Manitoba. David also has volunteered with the St. James A’s to convene both local, and provincial ‘AAA’ Baseball MB tournaments for various age groups over the last 5 years.
David has a beautiful wife Michelle, who graduated as a 3 sport all American from a US University, and is a physical education teacher at a local elementary school. David and Michelle have a son Rowan, a perpetual honour roll student, who is enrolled at U of M with aspirations to become a doctor. He also is a 2019 and 2023 Canada Winter Games alumni who placed top 10 in Halfpipe/Big Air and Top 5 in Slopestyle. He also played volleyball and badminton for his high school, played ‘AAA’ baseball for the St. James A’s. His daughter Neveah, has a passion for volleyball and plays with the Junior Bisons and Sturgeon Heights Huskies. She also runs her own crafting business and was involved in the arts (singing, acting, musicals), and most recently boxing. She has won girls athlete of the year and multiple scholarships and academics awards at her high school. They also have 2 small yappy but cute dogs, Oliver, and Pepper.
